Ya Hussain! Ya Hussain !
THE SUPREME SACRIFICE
When the Martyrdom Ended - But the Zulm Did Not
We have now reached the most painful turning point in our journey through the forty zulm narrated by Aqa Moula Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin (TUS).
In the previous post, we inwitnessed the final moments of Imam Husain (AS): the multi-tude of wounds, the relentless assault, his final sajdah, and the severing of his blessed head from his body.
One might imagine that the cruelty had reached its end.
It had not.
The martyrdom of Imam Husain (AS) was followed by another chapter of zulm-against his sacred body and against the women and children of the Ahl al-Bayt.
This is the beginning of The Supreme Sacrifice.
31. THE HORSES UPON THE BLESSED BODY
The enemies did not stop with the killing of Imam Husain (AS). The sacred body was trampled beneath the hooves of horses.
The intention was not merely to kill.
It was to humiliate.
Yet the irony of Karbala is that what was intended as humiliation became an eternal symbol of honour.
The body could be crushed.
The mission could not.
The world remembers the name of Husain (AS) with reverence, while those who sought to humiliate him are remembered only through their ظلم
A Fatemi reflection
The worth of a soul is not measured by the condition of its physical body, nor by worldly power.
The Imam's true victory lay in remaining faithful to Allah's command until his final breath.
32. THE HEADS RAISED UPON SPEARS
The blessed heads of the martyrs were raised upon spears and carried away.
What the oppressors intended as a display of triumph became, instead, a proclamation of the tragedy.
They wanted the world to see their victory.
Instead, they ensured that the world would forever see their crime.
There is a profound lesson here.
Falsehood may possess the sword, but truth possesses memory.
The spear could carry the head of Husain (AS), but it could never carry away his message.
33. THE MARTYRS LEFT WITHOUT SHROUDS OR BURIAL
The bodies of the martyrs were left upon the battlefield without the honour of burial.
In Islamic tradition, the shrouding and burial of the deceased are acts of dignity and respect.
To deny even this final honour was another form of zulm.
But here again Karbala teaches us that the dignity of the believer does not depend upon the recognition of the oppressor.
The martyrs were denied earthly burial.
Yet Allah gave them something infinitely greater:
everlasting remembrance.
The young martyrs showed us courage.
Their names became part of the spiritual inheritance of generations.
34. THE TENTS WERE BURNED
The battle was over.
The Imam had been martyred.
The men of the camp had been killed.
Yet the tents were set alight.
The women and children were forced to flee from burning tents.
FORTY TORMENTS - ONE ETERNAL MISSION
Imagine the psychological terror of that night.
The protector of the household was no more.
The men who had defended them were gone.
And now the very tents that had provided shelter became engulfed in flames.
The Fatemi lesson
Karbala teaches us that sabr is not simply remaining silent in suffering.
It is maintaining one's relationship with Allah when everything familiar has been taken away.
And this is where the next great chapter of Karbala begins:
the sabr of Zaynab (SA).
35. SAKINA (SA): THE SLAP UPON THE CHEEK
Among the surviving children was Sakina (SA).
The daughter of Imam Husain (AS), already bereaved of her father, witnessed the de-struction of her family and then suffered further humiliation.
The narration of a slap upon the cheek of Sakina (SA) is among the most painful images associated with the aftermath of Karbala.
A spiritual reflection

The child who should have been protected by her father was now exposed to the cruelty of those who had killed him.
Here we encounter another dimension of zulm:
The oppression of innocence.
Karbala does not merely ask us to mourn the innocent.
It asks us to become protectors of innocence in our own world.
Whenever a child is humiliated, neglected, exploited or deprived of dignity, the lesson of Sakina (SA) should awaken our conscience.
36. THE VEILS AND COVERINGS WERE SNATCHED AWAY
The women of the Ahl al-Bayt were deprived of their coverings.
For a household whose modesty, dignity and haya were sacred, this was another pro-found humiliation.
The intention was to strip the Ahl al-Bayt not merely of possessions, but of dignity.
Yet the remarkable response of Sayyidah Zaynab (SA) and the women of the household demonstrates something extraordinary:
**Their outer coverings could be taken.
Their inner dignity could not.**
This distinction is deeply important.
The oppressor can attempt to control circumstances.
He cannot control the believer's relationship with Allah.
THE PARADOX OF KARBALA
And here we encounter one of the greatest paradoxes of Karbala.
The enemies possessed:
numbers, weapons, horses, power and authority.
The Ahl al-Bayt possessed:
sabr, yaqeen, dignity and Allah.
Who truly won?
The answer is visible fourteen centuries later.
The empire disappeared.
The battlefield disappeared.
The weapons disappeared.
But the name of Husain (AS) continues to live in the hearts of millions.
That is why the Qur'an tells us:
"Do not think of those who are killed in the way of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision."
-Qur'an 3:169
Karbala gives this verse a living dimension.
THE LESSON FOR US
Perhaps the most difficult form of sabr is not enduring one's own suffering.
It is enduring suffering while carrying a responsibility greater than oneself.
That was the responsibility placed upon the surviving Ahl al-Bayt.
They had to remember.
They had to preserve.
They had to speak.
They had to ensure that Karbala was never reduced to a forgotten battle in history.
And this is where Karbala becomes relevant to our own lives.
We too have responsibilities that must continue despite difficulty.
We too may experience disappointment, loss, injustice or circumstances beyond our control.
The question is not:
"Why did this happen to me?"
The oppressor may control what happens to us.
He cannot decide what we become because of it.
Dua ni iltemas.
